When to Schedule a Botox® Touch-up

Botox® Cosmetic is the No. 1 choice for facial rejuvenation without surgery or downtime. A simple series of injections erases frown lines, crow’s feet, and more. After your first Botox session, you can schedule regular touch-ups to maintain results.

neurotoxin like Botox® Cosmetic calms down the muscles in your forehead and around your eyes that create dynamic wrinkles from your expressions. Just days to weeks after your first treatment, your skin smooths out, and you no longer have:

  • Forehead furrows
  • Eleven lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Crow’s feet

However, nonsurgical Botox and fillers are beauty solutions that must be repeated or touched up in order to maintain your rejuvenating results. Joon Lee, MD, and our team of aesthetics specialists at SeeBeyond Beauty in Scarsdale, New York, have created this guide to help you schedule touch-ups for your Botox.

Achieving your goals

Dermatologists and aestheticians have used Botox for more than 20 years to erase wrinkles and lines in the upper face. Botox blocks the signals that your brain sends to the dynamic muscles that cause extreme expressions such as:

  • Surprise
  • Worry
  • Anger
  • Distaste
  • Squinting

Your first Botox treatment takes anywhere from a few days to up to four weeks to completely relax your dynamic muscles. We usually like to see you about a month after your first treatment to be sure you’re happy with your results.

At that time, if you feel your lines are still too visible, we may recommend a touch-up of Botox to relax your dynamic muscles further. If you have deep creases, such as frown lines, you may get a better result by adding a dermal filler, which instantly adds volume to smooth away deep furrows and creases.

Fillers, such as Radiesse, last from 6-18 months, depending on how thick they are. Your aesthetician makes the best recommendation for you based on your goals and needs.

Schedule touch-ups to keep wrinkles at bay

Each Botox treatment lasts anywhere from 3-4 months. Because we don’t want you to worry about falling behind (or develop more worry lines!), we recommend a touch-up schedule that falls within that range so you get continuous wrinkle control.

As long as you were happy with your initial results, your follow-up treatments usually involve the same dosage and sites as your initial treatment. Of course, you won’t have to wait days or weeks to see beautiful, smooth skin after a touch-up. The new injection simply maintains the effects of the first treatment.

Don’t worry about “too much” Botox

You may remember the days when celebrities “froze” their faces because they and their doctors used too much Botox and other procedures to erase the signs of aging. However, all of our aestheticians and dermatologists are highly skilled injectors and knowledgeable about Botox.

We only administer enough Botox to prevent your muscles from creating extreme expressions — such as frowning or squinting hard — that form wrinkles in your skin. The injections relax your muscles enough to allow your skin to smooth out but not enough to prevent you from looking and feeling naturally and beautifully expressive.

You don’t have to worry about getting “too much” Botox in your touch-ups, either. We schedule them to coincide with the time that your last dose is wearing off.

When you book your first Botox treatment, in fact, we schedule you for your touch-ups. That way, you never have to worry about your worry lines again.
